Manitoba Hydro Place – Winnipeg, MB

Manitoba Hydro Place is Manitoba Hydro's new headquarters located in downtown Winnipeg. The 695,240 sq. ft. building, with a projected budget of $278 million, was designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects of Toronto. It is the 4th tallest building in the city of Winnipeg and one of the most energy-efficient buildings of its size in North America. The building has achieved LEED Gold certification, with 60% energy savings. The headquarters officially opened on September 29, 2009 with 1650 Hydro employees working in the building. Special features include a main floor art gallery exhibiting works from both local and international artists.

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals – Ridgefield, CT

The Boehringer Ingelheim Group is one of the world’s 15 leading pharmaceutical companies. This location in Ridgefield, CT is one of BI’s seven Global Skill Centres, which focus on research and development. The GSCs serve as a platform for information exchange and shared technology development. Furthermore, they deliver specialised support to project teams and validate emerging technologies. Designed by Flad & Associates, this four-phased project included 40,050 sq. ft. of construction and renovations to the administration facility and 109,800 sq. ft. to space used for laboratories. There were substantial mechanical upgrades, and an 88,960 sq. ft. Safety Assessment Building and 280-space elevated deck parking garage were also constructed.

Telus Tower – Toronto, ON

The Telus Tower is the new headquarters for TELUS Corporation located in the heart of Toronto’s financial district. Designed by Toronto’s Adamson Associates Architects, the Telus Tower is a 30-storey, 830,000 sq. ft., $250 million office tower that includes a two-storey podium, conference and wellness facilities, as well as 30,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Completed in 2009, the TELUS Tower is one of the most publicly accessible, technologically-advanced and environmentally-sustainable buildings in North America. Using the LEED certification system as a guideline for design, the Telus Tower has received Gold level certification. In addition to the LEED elements, Telus Tower showcases "Future Friendly™" Technology in both building automation systems and tenant environments. This includes floor-to-ceiling windows, raised floors for underfloor distribution of hot/cool air, and state-of-the-art communications cabling and electrical power.

7 World Trade Center – New York City, NY

7 World Trade Center is the new 52-storey 1.7 million sq. ft. tower that sits in place of the original building that was destroyed on September 11, 2001. Devised by architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the current 7 World Trade Center's design focuses on safety, with a reinforced concrete core, wider stairways, and thicker fireproofing of steel columns. It also incorporates numerous environmentally friendly features. The first ten floors house an electrical substation, which provides power to much of Lower Manhattan. To enclose the power substation and improve its aesthetics, the base of the building has a curtain wall with McGill Louvers that provide ventilation for the machinery. The building is being promoted as the safest skyscraper in the U.S., incorporating a host of life-safety enhancements that will become the prototype for new high-rise construction.

Shanghai Securities Building – Shanghai, China

Designed by Toronto-based architectural firm Webb Zerafa Minkes Housden, the Shanghai Securities Building is home of the Shanghai stock exchange – the world’s 5th largest stock market. Located in Shanghai’s Pudong Development Area, this twenty-six-storey structure is a widely acclaimed area landmark. Distinct from the surrounding towers, the building forms an 18 storey high arch, monumental in scale. The 95,000 m², $100 million building features a nine-storey podium housing the Securities Exchange Complex and trading floors.

TIFF Bell Lightbox – Toronto, ON

TIFF Bell Lightbox is the new home of the world-renowned Toronto International Film Festival. Located in the heart of Toronto’s media and entertainment district, the facility serves as headquarters for all of the Festival’s existing programs as well as new initiatives, and is an essential meeting place for film professionals, educators and film lovers from around the globe. The five-story complex designed by architectural firm KPMB opened its doors in September of 2010. The 175,000 sq. ft. facility runs 365 days of the year for an annual attendance of more than a million people. McGill Entrance Grilles were selected in order to accommodate this high level of foot traffic and maintain building standards.

Hearst Tower – New York City, NY

Hearst Tower in New York City is the world headquarters of the Hearst Corporation, bringing together numerous publications and communications companies under one roof, including Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, Good Housekeeping and Seventeen. The 40,000 sq. ft. six-story base of the headquarters building was completed in 1928. Originally built as the base for a proposed skyscraper, the construction of the tower was postponed due to the Great Depression. The new 860,000 sq ft tower addition – designed by the architect Norman Foster and constructed by Turner construction – was completed nearly eighty years later at a cost of $500 million. Hearst Tower was the first skyscraper to break ground in New York City after September 11, 2001 and is the city’s first LEED Gold certified skyscraper.

York University TEL Building – North York, ON

Designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects, the TEL Building (Technology Enhanced Learning) is located on the York University campus and was considered to be cutting edge during its initial inception. The building features 345,000 sq/ft of floor space, 31 classrooms, 42 computer labs, three library and resource centres, a virtual reality centre, a 4000+ student capacity and cost $84 million dollars to build. It was launched as a joint venture between York University and Seneca College as one of their "SuperBuild" projects. Construction began in November 2001 and was completed shortly after the building opened in September of 2003. The building features modern architecture with large open spaces, sharply designed walls and incorporates smart technology throughout the building. In the TEL Building, natural light is a key design element. McGill Sun Controls were selected to make as much use of the natural light available as possible to animate the large, open spaces.

University Of Houston – Calhoun Lofts – Houston, TX

Located on the University of Houston’s campus, the Calhoun Lofts is the largest graduate and professional student housing project in the U.S. Planning for the project began when the university analyzed its projected enrolment numbers and determined that the growing demand for on-campus housing for both single and married graduate and professional students was an issue that needed to be addressed. Designed by Kirksey Architects, the Calhoun Lofts is a $107.8 million, 557,000-square-foot, ten-story, 984-bed, state-of-the-art facility providing a combination of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments featuring 10-foot ceilings. To reduce its carbon footprint, the lofts were designed with energy-efficient concepts to lower overall maintenance costs and provide energy savings. McGill Sun Controls were incorporated as one of the sustainable features of the project in order to meet these goals.

Texas Children’s Hospital – NRI – Houston, TX

Texas Children’s Hospital will break ground with its new West Campus, the first community children’s hospital to be built in the greater Houston area. When completed, the new facility will be among the nation’s largest suburban pediatric hospitals and will serve one of its fastest growing child populations. Located on 55 acres, the medical complex, totaling 490,000 square feet, will be built in phases at an estimated cost of $220 million. Designed by the architecture firm of PageSoutherlandPage, the new facility will incorporate interior and exterior evidence-based design elements that promote healing such as natural light, views of water and nature, child life play areas, and outdoor park-like settings for patient and family use. The project is being designed and constructed following Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) principles. McGill Sun Controls were incorporated in this project to help meet these standards.

Southlake Regional Health Centre – Newmarket, ON

Southlake Regional Health Centre (formerly York County Hospital) is a hospital located in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. In 1999, a massive $149 million expansion and renovation project of the hospital was approved by the Ministry of Health, which would allow the hospital to become the largest in York Region. The hospital is connected to the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre to its west, and to a multi-purpose building by an arch bridge to its north. The Cancer Centre, partnered with Princess Margaret Hospital, has been rated as a "world-class" facility.

Claude Watson School For The Arts – North York, ON

The Claude Watson School for the Arts provides specialized training in both Fine Arts and the Performing Arts. Students who attend this school come from all corners of the greater Toronto region and must audition to gain acceptance to the programme. The school is a symbol of the highest aspirations of applied cultural and primary education. Designed by Kohn Shnier Architects, the 50,000 square foot building includes technical facilities, conventional class rooms, music rooms, drama rooms, art rooms, a small gymnasium, library and multi purpose room. McGill Decorative Grilles were used to give the building extra character and pizzazz.

Bp Project Rodeo – Houston, TX

The construction of the BP Project Rodeo – IST Building Helios Plaza was part of the redevelopment of the BP America Houston Westlake Campus, which will allow BP America to double its current 5,000+ employees. This new facility is a six-story, 400,000 square foot trading facility for the BP Integrated Supply & Trading business unit. It is designed and constructed to meet LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® certification — Gold and Platinum levels, which are in compliance with the BP America corporate sustainability initiatives. One of the key sustainability elements of the BP Project Rodeo – IST Building Helios Plaza is a high-performance exterior skin comprised of curtain wall with McGill Sun Controls.

Eaton Centre – Toronto, ON

The Toronto Eaton Centre is the largest shopping mall in Eastern Canada. In terms of the number of visitors, the shopping mall is Toronto's top tourist attraction, with around one million visitors per week. McGill Entrance Grilles were selected to accommodate the heavy foot traffic and maintain building standards.
